2014 – Barn Light Australia’s resolution for growth.
If you thought that our emergence in Australia was swift, you’d be right – We hit the ground hard both in bookwork and product offering.
Barn Light Australia
We had a bumper year in 2013, a lot changed our perception of the lighting industry which also included our resolve to providing a better quality product.
Our resolutions for 2014 form part a working list and the final stages of implementation. You’ll know which is which once we release our newer products in due time.
1) We’re going to create more Australian jobs by investing into our local industry.
Barn Light Australia will be partnering with a local powdercoater to offer our range of vintage pendants, goosenecks lights, rustic wall sconces, and stem mounted pendants in Dulux colours. For those who don’t already know, Dulux maintain a large presence in Dandenong South, 40Km from Melbourne, Victoria and manufacture excellent quality powder provide a large range of coloured powders which are commonly used in architectural, commercial and residential premises due to their long lasting, hard wearing colours. Have you experienced flaking, bubbling or loose paint falling off a relatively new lighting fixture or piece of hardware? In that case the aluminium hasn’t been pre-treated with a chemical substrate.
A process call Chromating or more commonly known as ‘Pre-treatment’ in order to provide the best quality surface for the powder to stick to before baking. Lighting sourced from Asia rarely contains any form of pre-treatment due to the attributed higher cost of production entailed. Lighting stores that don’t list the origin of their products are most likely purchasing from Asia or India while looking to boost margins on already uneconomical lighting products. If you are looking for a long lasting product, we make it. Hopefully you’ll be seeing more of it soon.
2) Expand on our already large product range.
-> Sign Lights
You’ll notice that these brands all have something in common apart from quality goods or renowned advertising. They’ve all purchased lighting from Barn Light Australia in 2013. We’ve got a host more of clientele which we can’t publish as we greatly respect our working relationship with the interior designers that work with our products. Now if you are into fine dining, would you choose upon Marciano’s of Lindfield (Sydney) or Jamie’s Italian II (Sydney)? Coffee? Ona Coffee (Canberra) or Starbucks City Square (Melbourne)? We’re working towards brining the Frontier Gooseneck Angle Shade & Emblem Gooseneck Sign Lights to Melbourne before February, available in four different sizes each along with an expanded range of colour options comes a longer list of available goosenecks.
-> Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
For the love of all things green, we hope that you’ve moved away from inefficient incandescent bulbs, the bane of maintenance people everywhere. We’re working towards fully integrated LEDs this year, supplied by CREE Lighting via local Aussie distributors. Upto 95 lumens per watt (l/pw) means an equivalent of 75W bulbs with only 12W of electricity used and all with a five year warranty. To replace older, yet fully functional lighting fixtures, we now supply our Nostalgic Edison Style LED Light Bulb (There are no light bulb manufacturers left in Australia so we’ve sourced these from our ethical suppliers in Asia) which uses on 3.2W worth of electricity, yet lasts for a minimum of 3.5 years under normal load.
-> Industrial Decor
We’re working upon sourcing NewGate Clocks which are designed in England either via a local supplier or else directly from Barn Light USA.
The homewares section is intended to be sparse however local demand means we have to add to it over time.
3) Improve upon our delivery times from the USA
As you’d expect, moving product from the other side of the world has it’s challenges and while we’ve delivered a large amount of product in a relatively small time frame, we acknowledge that we can do better.
4) Customer Reviews
If there is something you believe we can do better, let us know! Until then we’ll be making periodic offers in exchange for product reviews to ensure you make an informed decision to purchase.
